Frequently Asked Questions
How do I add fractions with different denominators?
Find the lowest common denominator (LCD) of both fractions, convert each fraction so it has the LCD as its denominator, then add the numerators.
What is the difference between a proper and improper fraction?
A proper fraction has a numerator smaller than its denominator (e.g. 3/4). An improper fraction has a numerator larger than its denominator (e.g. 7/4).
How do you divide fractions?
To divide fractions, flip the second fraction (find its reciprocal) and multiply. For example, 3/4 ÷ 2/5 = 3/4 × 5/2 = 15/8.
